There is a special exchange of energy that happens over a cup of coffee...
The journey of coffee, much like other cash crops, is one of struggle. Coffee plants grow wild in Ethiopia, its place of origin, and the majority of the world’s coffee is still grown in Black and Brown countries. Coffee is one of the world’s most consumed beverages. Semilla Cafe + Studio is rooted in intention and reclamation.
Across the US there is a movement which aims to highlight the custom of drinking coffee as insight into our past, present and future.
Semilla Cafe + Studio aims to carve an accessible space for BIPOC and LGBTQIA folx in and adjacent to this industry in Hartford. Furthermore, the communities of Latinx and Caribbean migrant workers that supported the local economy in the 20th century have contributed deeply to Hartford’s culinary, musical, and cultural identity. Without them, we would not exist.
We are a multi- roaster shop, partnering with businesses that ensure that you will sip a beautiful and complex cup of coffee. Check out our menu, which we aim to be both approachable and nuanced.
The space operates as a pop-up event space.
Plan your next event/art opening here!
Semilla supports the visibility and growth of Black and Latinx local small businesses by sharing resources and space. Operating as an indoor market where emerging and independent artists and designers can showcase their wares, this space is designed to grow and change with our vendors.
